How we check every event
Every event on freekidsevents comes from the organizer’s own public calendar. We don’t take listings from reposts, ads or social media, and nobody can pay to be listed.
Where events come from
Right now we read these official calendars:
- San Francisco Public Library
- San José Public Library
- Santa Clara County Library District
- San Mateo County Libraries
- Oakland Public Library
- Alameda County Library
- Contra Costa County Library
- Palo Alto City Library
- Marin County Free Library
Holiday pages also list tree lightings, light displays and visits with Santa that we look up one by one on the city’s or organizer’s own page. Each of those shows its source too.
What we keep
- Events for children up to 12, including family and all-ages events.
- Free events only. Library programs are free unless the description names a price; if it does, we leave the event out.
- Events at a real place you can go. Online-only programs, tutoring, book sales and volunteer shifts are left out.
How often we check
Each calendar is read again several times a day. If an organizer cancels or moves an event, it drops off or moves here at the next check. Every card shows when we last checked it.
Before you go
Times can still change at short notice. Every card links to the organizer’s page, so a quick look there before you leave is the surest check. If a card says “Sign-up needed”, book on that page first.
