Editorial policy
freekidsevents is made by parents for parents. This page explains how we decide what goes on the site and how we keep it accurate.
Sources
We list events from the organizer's own public calendar: public libraries, park and recreation departments, museums, zoos, gardens, nature centers and city event calendars. Family event calendars run by local parents count as a second source; when an organizer lists the same event, the organizer's listing wins. We don't copy anyone's write-ups: summaries are our own, and every event links to the organizer's page.
What we list
- Events for children up to 12, including family and all-ages events.
- Free events first. A paid event appears only when you turn off "Free only", and its price is shown.
- Events at a real place you can go. Online-only programs, tutoring, book sales and volunteer shifts are left out.
Guides
Our guides answer the questions parents ask us: where the free museum days are, which holiday events are worth the trip, what to do when it rains. Every fact in a guide (a date, a rule about who gets in free, an address) comes from the organizer's own page and links to it. We don't invent experiences or statistics. Each guide shows who wrote it, who checked it against the sources, and the date of that check; we review guides before each season and whenever an organizer changes its rules. Lists of events inside a guide are live from the same calendars as the rest of the site.
Independence
Listings are never paid, and organizers can't pay to be listed or ranked. If we ever take sponsorship, it will be clearly labelled and kept apart from the event lists.
Corrections
Times can change at short notice, so every card links to the organizer for a final check. If something here is wrong, write to hello@freekidsevents.com. We fix errors as soon as we confirm them with the organizer, and guides show the date they were last updated.
