Free Christmas lights in Houston in 2026

Checked against the organizers' pages by freekidsevents editorial team on Saturday, Oct 31.How we check

For free Christmas lights in Houston, start with the Energy Corridor District’s tree lighting on December 3 or Deck the Hall at City Hall on December 5. Both organizers confirm free admission for 2026. Choose the location that fits your evening, then check the organizer’s latest arrival information. Several other Houston holiday pages still show last season’s dates.

A free evening in the Energy Corridor

The Energy Corridor District’s tree lighting is scheduled for Thursday, December 3, 2026, from 6–9 pm at Hyatt Regency Houston West, 13210 Katy Freeway. The organizer says no tickets are required and asks visitors to RSVP so it can plan for attendance.

The announced activities include free Santa photos with a souvenir photo, children’s crafts and postcards to the North Pole. Food trucks and the holiday market sell items separately. You can plan around the free activities without treating a food purchase as part of admission.

There is no onsite parking at the Hyatt. The district directs drivers to offsite parking at the ConocoPhillips surface lot, 700 North Dairy Ashford Road, entering from Park Row Boulevard. Read those directions before setting off rather than navigating straight to the hotel entrance. Check the same page for weather updates before leaving home.

Deck the Hall at City Hall

Houston’s official October announcement confirms that Deck the Hall is a free holiday event on Saturday, December 5, 2026. It combines the Mayor’s Holiday Tree Lighting with a concert and a fireworks finale.

The city’s Deck the Hall page places the celebration at Hermann Square at City Hall. It names Jessica Sanchez, MAJOR. and En Vogue in the entertainment lineup. As of our October 31 check, that page says more event details will be announced. We are not assigning a start time from an older schedule.

If your child mainly wants to see the tree, check the detailed running order when it appears before committing to the full evening. A concert and fireworks may make this a different outing from a short walk past lights. Decide how long you want to stay, and use the city’s event information for arrival plans.

Downtown displays need separate admission checks

Downtown Houston’s 2026 City Lights announcement gives November 21–December 31 as the overall season. It names places including Market Square Park, Lynn Wyatt Square and Trebly Park. The downtown district helps organize the program, so its announcement is a useful starting point.

That announcement says many displays are free, while some experiences need tickets. It does not make every stop free. Before choosing a destination, open that venue’s current page and check the activity you want, its admission terms and its hours.

For a parent keeping spending down, a display and a paid attraction on the same route are separate decisions. Do not buy a ticket simply because it appears beside a free display on a holiday map. We have not labeled every City Lights destination as a free outing.

Check the year at Discovery Green

Discovery Green’s Signature Experiences list still dates H-Town Holiday Lights to November 21, 2025–January 4, 2026. Those are the previous holiday season’s dates. The display page describes animated lights and music on the Brown Foundation Promenade and warns that flashing lights may affect sensitive viewers. Its 2026 holiday-season dates are not confirmed in that listing.

Do not use the old opening hours to plan this year’s trip. Check Discovery Green again once its current holiday announcement is available.
